Unwelcome interference

It was very disappointing to see Barack Obama adopt bully-boy tactics by attempting to influence the British people as to how they should vote in the forthcoming EU referendum, especially when it is evidently clear he is only looking after America's own interests.

He has shown himself to be incredibly naive in his lack of understanding as to what the EU stands for, which is certainly not about democracy.

American and British servicemen did not pay the ultimate price in World War Two in order for every aspect of our lives in Great Britain to be dominated by an unelected body of dictators in Brussels, a situation that the USA would never accept in their country.

The Americans have their Independence Day – we would very much like to celebrate our own here in the UK by breaking free from the shackles of the meddling EU which is having such a detrimental effect on our country.

I am confident that Great Britain, with its long history of courage and determination when faced with threats to our way of life, will be all the more stronger for governing itself and does not need to be supported by the corrupt EU in order to continue being a world player of great influence in trade and industry.

The ‘special relationship’ between America and the UK referred to by Mr Obama does not give him the right to influence the British electorate on such a momentous decision for the future of our country.

It may well be that David Cameron’s plan to get the American President on his side will spectacularly backfire and alienate people even more towards the Remain campaign.

The British people must not allow themselves to be hoodwinked as they were in 1975 when they voted to stay in the Common Market, (EEC), not realising that all powers of decision-making for the UK would ultimately be transferred to Brussels.

The arrival of President Obama on Air Force One made me more determined than ever to vote to leave the EU on June 23, and I hope the British citizens will treat his unwelcome interference with the contempt it deserves and do the same.
