Unsung sport heroes given their chance

ROTHERHAM is to host an event which will honour the town's unsung sporting heroes.

For several years, South Yorkshire’s Sports Awards Recognition scheme has set out to recognise people who work in sport but receive little praise.

Now Rotherham is to have its own local heat, in which the town’s backroom sporting heroes will have chance to go through to the regional event - then possibly on to the Yorkshire Sports Awards.

The event has been organised by Rotherham Council's Sports Development Team and a number of local organisations including Corus, Rotherham Rotary Club, Voluntary Rotherham, Bannatyne Health Club, DC Leisure and Magna.

But Rotherham folk only have until Friday to nominate anyone they think deserves an award for excelling in sport or playing a vital backroom role.

The event will take place on Thursday, October 25, at the Consort Suite Hotel, Thurcroft.

Brian Chapple, of Rotherham Titan rugby club, will be hosting the evening.
