A FOOTBALL stalwart has been nominated for an award recognising unsung heroes.
Norman Rimmington, who works in Barnsley FC’s laundry department, has been shortlisted for the unsung hero award at the Football League Awards 2012.
Since joining the club in 1946, when he signed his first professional contract as a goalkeeper, Norman has worked at Barnsley in a number of roles including physio, groundsman and kitman.
The 88-year-old, pictured, from Darton, said: “I’m delighted to have been nominated. I started as a player, then I was a coach for 11 years and a physio for 30, and so I’m working in the laundry now.
“But I’m not going to retire just yet. It’s somewhere to come and I love it here.”
Rotherham United have also been shortlisted for community club of the year, while Sheffield United’s Ched Evans is up for League One player of the year in the awards which will be announced at a London ceremony on Sunday, March 11.
