University wins praise for support of gay community

The University of Sheffield has been praised for its support of the LGBT community.

It has been placed 43rd in the Stonewall Workplace Equality Index 2015, a nationally-recognised table ranking organisations on their support for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender staff.

It has risen 39 places since last year and been nominated for the Diverse Company Award, Education sector in the Excellence in Diversity Awards 2015.

University Director of human resources Andrew Dodman said: “I’m delighted that the University of Sheffield has once again been named a Top 100 Employer by Stonewall, and to have improved so much is testimony to our ongoing and sustained commitment to equality and diversity.”
