PRINCE Charles is set to make his first visit to Barnsley later this month - where his itinerary includes a meeting with legendary cricket umpire Dickie Bird.
The Prince of Wales is due to complete several engagements in the town on Tuesday, January 24.
He will meet Dickie at the umpire’s statue next to St Mary’s Church, in the town centre.
Dickie said he was looking forward to welcoming the prince, describing him as a ‘charming chap’.
He said: “I’ve met Prince Charles before when I was invited to Buckingham Palace for a reception for sports personalities.”
The Prince is then due to attend the University Campus Barnsley to talk to students and receive an update on work his charity, The Prince’s Trust, is doing with young people in the area.
A final engagement for Prince Charles will be Wentworth Castle house and gardens - one of the few stately homes around the UK he has not visited before.
