UKIP bolsters presence on council with new member

An independent member of Stocksbridge Town Council has joined UKIP – swelling the party’s presence in the area.

Mark Wrigley, who has been on the authority since last July, has made the move after being involved in the campaign to save Stocksbridge Leisure Centre.

He said: “I’ve been involved in various meetings and discussions about the decision to close Stocksbridge Leisure Centre.

“What comes across strongly is that the old left wing versus right wing politics no longer exists.

“Instead, we are confronted with a group of self-serving, career politicians intent on forcing through their own dogma at the expense of the community.”
