Asda and Aldi launch new 'no touch' policy inside supermarkets to slow the spread of the coronavirus outbreak

Aldi and Asda are urging customers to avoid touching items they are unlikely to purchase to help limit the spread of coronavirus.

Signs have been put up in Aldi stores, asking customers to avoid touching trolleys unless they are at the front entrance to ennsure they have been been individually deep cleaned by a member of staff.

Consumers are also encouraged to disinfect their hands before entering the store, using the sanitisation stations provided.

Asda also issued a new “no touch” policy in order to keep staff and customers as safe as possible while picking up essential shopping.

In a message published on their website, the retailer urged people to “pick up only what you intend to buy” and “touch less” to slow the spread of coronavirus.

"There will also be clear signage, directional barriers and floor markings to help you move around our store easily and maintain a two-metre distance from other customers and our colleagues.

"You are allowed to bring your children and other members of your household to our stores, but we ask that you keep this to a minimum to help us maintain social distancing advice.

“We’re asking customers to only touch items they intend to purchase and to use cashless payment wherever they can to minimise contact.

"There will be regular announcements on Asda radio to remind customers of their responsibility to apply social distancing rules, and to help you do this we are closing every other self-checkout till."
