U13s fail to reach semis

Sheffield U13s have failed to make into the semi finals of the Yorkshire Lords Taverners competition.

The youngsters made a winning start to their group matches when they beat Craven by 9 wickets at Frecheville CC, last week.

Robin Hawkins looked sharp claiming 3 for 9 and Luke Shutt was just as impressive taking 3 for 12 as Craven were all out for just 57.

And Sheffield had no problems in reaching that target, completing their reply with 60 for 1.

James Martin led the way with an unbeaten 23 and Hawkins completed a fine all round performance scoring 19 not out.

They made it two wins out of two with a two-wicket win against Bradford at Spen Victoria CC.

Bradford were bowled out for 142 with Shutt (2 for 30) and Tom Humphreys (3 for 32) the main wicket takers.

James Martin top scored in Sheffield’s reply with 46 and Jordan Bethel chipped in with 28 as the Under 13s passed that score with two wickets in hand.

But they suffered a set back in their final game when they went down by 17 runs to Huddersfield at Skelmenthorpe C.C.

Chasing a first innings target of 179 for 3, Sheffield fell short of that score to finish on 162 for 8 despite the efforts of Hawkins who top scored with a knock of 35.

Sheffield U15s have a match against Craven at Oakworth CC. today before facing Pontefract in their final group match at Whitley Hall C.C. tomorrow.

Barnsley U15s face Leeds away today.

Barnsley complete their group programme with a home match against Halifax tomorrow.
