TWO young men have been injured following a hit-and-run incident on a Sheffield road.

The accident happened on City Road, between Wulfric Road and Eastern Avenue, shortly before 1.40pm today.

The two pedestrians were hit by a car which left the scene afterwards.

Police cordoned off the area around the pedestrian crossing, and buses were diverted onto Wulfric Road before joining Prince of Wales Road.

Trams were also suspended this afternoon between Spring Lane and Gleadless Townend.

The road reopened at around 4.45pm, but traffic delays are expected until after the rush hour.

A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: “At about 1.39pm today a car is reported to have collided with two pedestrians on City Road, and then driven off without stopping. The two pedestrians - a 26-year-old man and a 21-year-old man - were injured, but did not appear to be in a life-threatening condition.”

Witnesses or anyone with information should call police on 101, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111, quoting incident number 448 of January 16.
