Two men have died in a multiple-vehicle collision on a busy Sheffield road.Â

The tragedy happened when several vehicles collided on the Stocksbridge Bypass yesterday at 5.55pm. 

In a statement, South Yorkshire Police said: 'It is reported that a grey Volkswagen Golf and a silver Citroen Picasso were involved in a collision.

'A silver Jeep Cherokee, travelling behind the Picasso, was then reportedly involved in a collision with the Picasso.

'The driver of the Golf suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

'The driver of the Picasso, a man believed to be in his 50s, was taken to hospital where he died in the early hours of this morning.'

In addition, a passenger in the Picasso, a woman believed to be in her 30s, was taken to hospital with serious injuries where she remains today.

The road was closed for several hours while emergency services dealt with the incident but the bypass has now been reopened.  

Formal identification has not yet taken place and an investigation is ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the collision.
