Demolition work is currently taking place at the former John Nicholas and Morris's sites near the Sun Inn pub on West Bars.

A new building will eventually be built at the location. It will have a retail outlet on the ground floor and two apartments on the first and second floors with a roof garden.

The demolition and development were granted planning permission by Chesterfield Borough Council last year.

During a period of public consultation into the plans, Brynley Wheeldon, of nearby West Bars News, said: "I support any enhancements to the West Bars area which I consider is a location that has been neglected in recent town centre planning and development strategies."

The John Nicholas building was a hairdressers while Morris's was a fish and chip shop.
