Police came to the rescue of a young girl left in tears on a Doncaster street by a friend’s horror story.

Viewers of police reality TV series 999: What’s Your Emergency? watched as a youngster named only as Bethan was comforted by two police officers in Intake after bursting into tears after being told a horror tale by a pal.

PCs Sophie Minto and Michael Patton were on a routine patrol ahead of the coronavirus pandemic when they spotted the youngster sobbing on the corner of Tudor Road and Sandringham Road in Intake.

When they investigated, they found she’d been subjected to a terrifying, scary story while out after dark – and the pair called in her dad who came to take her home – but not until the pair had shown her inside the police car and allowed her to operate the vehicle’s blue lights.

The series continue on Channel 4 at 9pm next Monday.
