STAFF from a Sheffield-based design firm made their small screen debut when they produced an unusual handbag complete with lights and alarms.
Fripp Design and Research, based at the Advanced Manufacturing Park near Rotherham, was approached by Channel 5’s The Gadget Show and asked to create a messenger style bag with features to stop it being stolen.
The bag they created can sense if it is moved more than five metres from its owner or if someone other than the owner opens it.
An alarm alerts the owner if any of the contents are taken out and, when it is triggered, so are flashing lights and thick coloured smoke.
The bag’s development was filmed by show’s production team and presenter Suzi Perry visited Fripp’s offices.
Managing director Tom Fripp said: “It was exciting to manage such a technically challenging idea. It was fun having Suzi Perry and the production team here for the morning and we were pleased when they said it was one of the best prototypes they’d seen!”
