The trust behind a new Islamic centre in Sheffield has revealed plans to turn a green space into a car park and recreation area.

The Emaan Trust of Sheffield wants to convert the area around Grimesthorpe Road, Margate Street and Cyclops Street in Burngreave.

The plan is to create about 55 parking spaces, a seating area, a sports area and a recreational area.

The land is opposite the mosque and Islamic centre currently under construction.

The trust hopes to close part of Cyclops Street and create new access from Grimesthorpe Road as part of the development.

Four people have so far objected to the plans.

The mosque is still under construction.

Karl Straw of nearby Petre Drive said he had no problem with the car park plan, but had concerns about the proposed sports area which would be behind his house.

And Patricia Larner of Wood Spring Court said she did not want trees to be felled.
