Tributes paid to tragic teenage kickboxer from Sheffield

Tributes have been paid to a Sheffield teenager who died after a kickboxing fight where he was 'doing what he loved'.

Scott Marsden, aged 14, from Hillsborough, died after a championship fight in Morley, Leeds, on Saturday.

The fight was stopped mid-way through after the talented teenager suffered a blow to his head.

He was taken to hospital, but could not be saved and died surrounded by his loved ones.

Andy Crittenden, posting on Facebook, said the talented teenage kickboxer, who had represented his country, 'loved' the sport.

He wrote: "So sad to hear the news of Scott Marsden who has passed away after suffering an injury in his kickboxing fight on Saturday night. It is so tragic.

"I met Scott and his dad a few times they were great people. Scott was such a talent, he died doing what he loved but at such a young age. I just can't believe it."

Dale Barrowclough, headteacher at Forge Valley School, Stannington, where Scott was a pupil, said: “At Forge Valley School we are deeply saddened by the news of Scott Marsden’s passing. Our thoughts are with his family during this very difficult time.

“Scott was a very popular young man among pupils and staff alike and it is without doubt that he had a very bright sporting future ahead of him.

“Today and yesterday have been very difficult here in school. Pupils have been, and continue to be, supported by staff and fellow pupils alike.

"It is testament to them all that they have dealt with this tragic news in such a mature and respectful way.”

Writing on Facebook, Scott's friend, Keenan Dixon, described the promising kickboxer as a 'warrior'.

He said: "One of the nicest lads I have ever had the pleasure of meeting always had a cheeky smile on his face.

"A warrior that has left a lifelong effect on everyone he met inside and out of the ring for being such a nice, chilled out, respectful lad.

"A true credit to kickboxing and his family."

Adrian Wright said Scott was 'such a talent' and described his death as a 'tragic loss'.

Jon Green, presidents of World Kickboxing Association England, said: "The world of kickboxing is mourning such a well loved and respected fighter and sportsman - one of our finest champions in every sense in the ring and true ambassador of the values out of the ring."

Vicky Copperthwaite, also writing on Facebook, said: "Scott was a very friendly and polite boy, a very talented and respectful young fighter who was fantastic to watch."
