Tributes paid as legendary Sheffield barber 'Mr T' dies aged 55

Tributes have been paid to legendary Sheffield barber and community figure Trevor Darien - aka Mr T - who has died aged 55.

According to posts on social media this morning, Mr Darien - who owned Mr T’s barber’s shop on City Road - died on Monday night.

The much-loved barber, DJ and community worker ran his business for many years from Park Hill flats, before moving to City Road.

His body was reportedly found in the flat above his current shop.

After the news was announced on Facebook this morning, social media was awash with tributes to him, with many focusing on his work in the community as well as his business.

Writing on Facebook, Lisa Marie Noonan said: “RIP Trevor. A lovely man and well respected by all who knew him. A friend to my boys and their dad. Condolences to his family, his children and his friends.”

Ezra Brown said: “Not only was you a great barber but a great friend to me. Sleep tonight Mister T, you will be in my heart forever and I’ll always remember that singing voice while I got my fade.”

And Terence Campbell said: “His barbershop was a place open to all and he always supported community projects and the youth. It’s not often my entire timeline is taken up by tributes for someone which shows the positive impact he had on so many people’s lives.”

And on Twitter, the founder of Sheffield Tent City, Anthony Cunningham, said: “Can not believe the news. Rest in peace Mr T was a true friend who I loved and respected and was always there for everyone through the good times and the bad.”

Dane Shaw write: “Mr T - a proper Park Hill lad gone. Fly safe my man! Long time friend and customer. Such a young age to go. RIP.”

And Jay said: “I’m genuinely gutted this morning - rest in peace Mr T! Sheffield legend.”

Police confirmed this morning they were called to the City Road barber’s shop just before 9pm on Monday night.

They said the body of a man in his 50s was found at the property but his death was not being treated as suspicious.
