Tributes to Chesterfield's Sarah Freckingham, a 'happy, smiley, lovely' girl

The mother of a Chesterfield schoolgirl who was sadly found dead in her home broke down in tears today as she remembered her 'happy, smiley, lovely' daughter.

Emergency services were called to St Augustine's Road yesterday morning after the body of Sarah Freckingham, 14, was unexpectedly discovered in her bed.

Speaking to the Derbyshire Times this afternoon, her mother Sharon said: "I miss her so much.

"Sarah was a happy, smiley, lovely girl.

"She loved school - she had so many friends.

"She was always listening to music and enjoyed days out .

"Sarah wanted to work with animals.

"I just want her back."

Sharon and Sarah's stepdaughter said the teenager was apparently hit by a ball on the bridge of her nose during a PE lesson on Tuesday.

They added: "She went to bed happy and healthy on Tuesday night after having a bath and doing her homework - and the following morning we found her.

"We want answers about how this could happen to our wonderful daughter."

They also thanked everyone for their kind words and support at this sad time.

A Derbyshire police spokesman said a file is currently being prepared for the coroner.

Sarah was a student at Parkside Community School in Chesterfield.

Kam Grewal-Joy, headteacher at Parkside, said: "Everyone was sad to hear of Sarah's sudden death.

"She was a pupil here for the last three years and made great progress. She took part in many school activities.

"Sarah developed a lovely group of friends and everyone will miss her.

"Our thoughts are with Sarah's family and we'll ensure all our children and staff are given all the support they need during this sad time."
