Tributes have been paid to a former Peak District National Park Authority member and councillor who has died.

Coun Ron Priestly, who served for eight years as a member of the National Park Authority, died at his home in Castleton, aged 84.

Tony Favell, chair of the Peak District National Park Authority, and long-standing friend of Ron and his wife Dora, said: “Everyone is saddened by Ron’s death. He will be missed greatly by his large family and all who knew him.

“His passion for the Hope Valley never faltered.”

Ron was a former National Farmers’ Union branch and county chairman, and was the president of Hope Show in 2000. He had also represented the Hope Valley on the High Peak Borough Council.
