Tribute to brave blinded officer

Have your say

SOUTH Yorkshire police officers have paid tribute to PC David Rathband, the officer shot and blinded by Raoul Moat and found dead at his home on Wednesday.

The Northumbria PC had been guest of honour at a dinner last year in Sheffield organised by officers from Moss Way police station to raise money for his charity the Blue Lamp Foundation.

Today Sgt Clive Collings, who helped organise the event at Baldwins Omega, said: “It is with genuine sadness that I heard of David’s death.

“When he attended our fundraiser in September he was a truly inspiring presence who displayed great warmth and strength.”
