Tribal tales at Clifton Park

Community project Tribo Fogo used a combination of theatre, music, skating, circus skills, beatboxing and fire to tell the ancient tales of three warring tribes.

Funded by grant from The Snapdragon Foundation, Big Lotto and Arts Council England’s Grants for the Arts, Myplace YMCA White Rose collaborated with Chol Theatre, pa-BOOM and a host of local young people to create the outdoor travelling performance which examined the greed, indulgence, rhythm and peace of tribal life.

The Mayor Rotherham, Coun Maggi Clark, attended the event. Afterwards, she said: “Amazing performance by Tribo Fogo on Clifton park tonight...great drama, music and fire.”

A spokesman for Rotherham Ethnic Minority Alliance said: “The audience was clearly inspired and amazed by the young people involved. It was an absolutely inspirational performance - very well done, with really fantastic creative directive!”

Nicola Harding, Reaching Communities Project Coordinator at Myplace, said: “The young people at Myplace have really done themselves proud.

“They have worked tremendously hard throughout the project and really pulled it out of the bag at show time. It just goes to show that young people from different communities can work together to create something magical.”
