A date has been set for the trial of a man accused of murdering his wife and daughter in South Yorkshire.

Peter Redfern, aged 70, is charged with murdering his wife Jean, aged 67, and daughter Sarah, aged 33, at the home they all shared in Sandygate Wath.

Redfern had been due to appear at Sheffield Crown Court by videolink from prison but the five minute hearing took place in his absence after the link failed.

Post mortem results revealed that Jean Redfern died from asphyxiation and Sarah Redfern from severe head injuries.

Police were called to the family home in Sandygate, Wath at around 7pm on Monday, July 22.

The trial has been set for January 2014 and a plea and case management hearing will take place in September.
