Tree planting at protected fields

A HUNDRED trees are to be planted at Sheffield playing fields by campaigners who secured royal protection for the site.

Residents in Woodhouse Mill managed to have the green space off Retford Road declared a Field In Trust under a campaign to protect playing fields backed by the royal family for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

Derek Hutchinson, of Woodhouse Mill and Orgreave Community Forum, said: “We will be planting the trees on January 19, including Royal-sourced oak.”
