Woman fighting for her life after crash on major Sheffield road

A woman has been left fighting for her life and a driver has been arrested after a crash on a major Sheffield road.

Emergency services were called to the A61 Halifax Road in Parson Cross, near the junction with Deerlands Avenue, where a blue BMW and a Suzuki of the same colour had reportedly collided, on Wednesday, September 2, at around 10pm.

The driver of the Suzuki, a 55-year-old woman, was taken to hospital with what police said were life-threatening injuries.

A spokeswoman for South Yorkshire Police said the BMW driver, a man aged 26, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

The road was closed between the junctions with Salt Box Lane and Wilcox Road following the crash.

Any witnesses have been asked to call South Yorkshire Police on 101, quoting the incident number 900 of September 2.
