UPDATED: Eight fire crews tackle Hope Valley hotel blaze
Firefighters from two counties have tackled a blaze at a Peak District hotel.
The fire was reported shortly before 6pm this evening (Friday) at The Old Hall Hotel on Market Place, Hope.
At its height eight fire appliances were at the scene, along with an aerial ladder platform. There were no reports of any injuries.
A post on The Old Hall Hotel’s Facebook page read: “It is my sad duty to report that the Old Hall is at present on fire.
“The damage is quite severe and I am not sure when I will be able to get it open again. Everyone is safe. I will keep everyone informed.”
The fire was eventually extinguished at around 10.30pm and firefighting operations have been scaled back.
A spokesman for Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Authority said: “Initially, the fire was fought in the roof space. After the fire was knocked down from the roof, the fire was located in the first floor.”
The incident remains ongoing and a reinspection of the property is to be carried out at around 1am on Saturday, the spokesperson added.
Crews from Hathersage, Chapel-en-le-Frith, Buxton, Whaley Bridge and New Mills fire stations were involved in the incident, along with colleagues from neighbouring South Yorkshire.
Police closed the A6187 between Castleton and Bamford to aid the firefighting operation.
