UPDATE: M1 reopens after crash near Sheffield

A stretch of the M1 motorway has reopened after a crash near Sheffield.

The M1 southbound was closed between J33 and J32 after the collision, which caused a chemical spill, this afternoon (Monday, July 6).

South Yorkshire Police confirmed that Junction 32 is now open with a lane one closure in place.

The M18 south link will open shortly, with a lane one closure also.

The collision is understood to have involved four vehicles including a lorry.

Although a South Yorkshire Police spokesperson confirmed that nobody was trapped in their vehicle, it is not yet known if anyone has been injured.

A post on SYP Ops Support Twitter reads: “Take care as traffic starts moving again and while Highways are recovering vehicles. Thank you for your patience.”

Drivers heading for the M1 are still advised to allow extra time for their journey.
