Tram train services suspended as Storm Christoph batters Sheffield

Storm Christoph is causing chaos for commuters in Sheffield after tram train services were suspended due to heavy rain.

Stagecoach said that as a result of the bad weather this morning (Wednesday, January 20) all tram train services are currently suspended ‘until further notice’.

Tram tickets are being accepted on Stagecoach and First buses between Parkgate, Meadowhall, Rotherham and Sheffield in the meantime.

A Stagecoach spokesperson said: “All other routes currently remain open.

"However, further disruption to travel is possible so please check our main feed before you travel.

"Wherever possible, stay at home unless your journey is essential.”

"Persistent and heavy rain” along with icy conditions and possibly snow will continue to batter Sheffield say the Met Office, who have issued an amber-level weather alert.

Five flood alerts have also been issued for the Sheffield region – Blackburn Brook, Middle River Don, River Sheaf and Porter Brook, Upper Derwent in Derbyshire and the Upper River Don catchment.
