Network Rail has reopened the lines at Rotherham Central station this afternoon (Monday, 17 February) following severe flooding to the railway.

All the lines were underwater this morning, after Storm Dennis wreaked havoc and caused flooding on Sunday (February 16).

Train services resumed shortly after 16:00 today following the completion of testing and repair work.

The work involved pumping water away from the railway, carrying out safety inspections, replacing damaged equipment and testing more than 30 cables.

Bus replacement services were running between Meadowhall and Swinton.

Matt Rice, Route Director for Network Rail’s North and East Route, said: “Storm Dennis brought heavy downpours to South Yorkshire over the weekend, which led to all the lines to and from Rotherham Central station being completely submerged by floodwater.

“Our teams have worked round the clock to clear floodwater and repair damage. We would like to thank passengers for their patience.”
