Derbyshire Police revealed they had issued £100 fines to 40 drivers whose cars were found parked on the B6521 at Padley Gorge, close to the border with Sheffield, yesterday, Sunday, May 31.

Derbyshire Roads Policing Unit said the drivers had flouted the rules by stopping on a road marked with double white lines.

“Today 40 drivers have a £100 fine and three-penalty point licence endorsement incoming,” said the unit.

“Surrounding us and shouting won't help. We've had to help guide traffic through at points due to dangerous parking. Many cyclists thanking us. Read the signs and Highway Code.”

Police added that many near misses had been witnessed due to cars being parked dangerously, despite it being possible to park safely within a five-minute walk.
