Snake Pass reopens after being closed due to heavy snow

The the A57 Snake Pass has reopened to drivers, having been closed last night and this morning due to heavy snow.

Drivers were back on the road at around 6.30am. Snake Pass was one of a number of major Peak District and Derbyshire roads forced to close due to treacherous conditions caused by snow and ice, and some others remain shut this morning.

A statement from Derbyshire County Council said: “The A537 Cat & Fiddle and A57 Snake Pass have reopened but we continue to monitor the situation in that area and motorists are urged to take care when using the route.”

A53 Leek Road and A6024 Holme Moss were closed last night due to snow, and remain closed this morning.

Derbyshire Police said: “Most of the county now has a covering of snow and it's only getting worse. It would be sensible to only make essential journeys until this clears.”
