The shocking footage, recorded on Stradbroke Road in Woodhouse, has prompted a warning against attempting such dangerous stunts.

It is understood that the rider in question escaped with nothing more serious than a sprained ankle and badly wounded pride.

But the crash could so easily have been more serious, especially with a number of other vehicles and pedestrians visible in the video when the driver attempts the wheelie.

The accident happened last year but the footage, in which the driver can be seen leaning back with the front wheel up in the air before losing balance, coming off the bike and rolling down the road as the motorbike shoots off ahead, has just been shared online.

It has gained plenty of attention on social media, and the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) has issued a warning in response.

Rebecca Needham, road safety officer for the charity, said: “The most competent and skilled riders know it’s a never a good idea to try to show off and perform dangerous stunts.

“Last year alone, 336 motorcyclists were killed and 16,224 were injured on British roads. With this in mind, we would encourage all riders to seek additional and advanced training so they can be the best bikers they can be.”

Procter Caulay, who shared the video on Facebook, posted it along with advice to ‘always wear a helmet kids’.
