Travel South Yorkshire said the work is the second part of the tram rail replacement project, with repairs scheduled on sections of track laid in the early 1990s from Saturday, June 6 until Friday, July 24.

The work will take place on White Lane between Fox Lane and Gleadless Townend, and on Norton Avenue in the vicinity of the Herdings/Leighton Road tram stop.

The Blue and Purple routes will be affected.

The Blue route will operate between Malin Bridge and Gleadless Townend only and will run a revised timetable. Tram stops including White Lane, Birley Lane, Birley Moor Road, Hackenthorpe, Donetsk Way, Moss Way, Crystal Peaks, Beighton/Drakehouse Lane, Waterthope Westfield and Halfway will not be served.

The Purple route will operate its normal route between Cathedral and Gleadless Townend but at a reduced frequency. Herdings/Leighton Road and Herdings Park tram stops will not be served.

The Halfway Park and Ride will be free while the work takes place, Travel South Yorkshire said. Tram Only tickets can also be used to make similar bus journeys to those normally taken on the tram.

The company recommended people affected by the routes use the 120, 8, 50, 53, 80a, and 252 bus services, which also serve a number of stops on both the Blue and Purple network.
