The drivers of Standon Road, Wincobank claim they were not consulted before the double yellow lines were painted, and that the road has since descended into ‘chaos’.

Mike Oldale says he was even slapped with a £70 fine after parking at the spot he has used for ‘nearly 30 years’.

He said: “We have had no consultation from Sheffield City Council- suddenly there were yellow lines all over with nowhere to park. That can’t be right.

“I’ve parked in the same spot for decades. As the road is very narrow, the spot is on a pavement but there is plenty of space for pedestrians and pushchairs and such.

“One day I came back to a £70 ticket for parking ‘in a restricted street during prescribed hours’. What does that mean?

“I have grown up children and friends who are struggling to visit because there’s just nowhere for them to put their cars, and it’s not just me.

“I really do feel we should have at least been warned before the Council plastered double yellows up and down a residential street.”

A spokesperson for Sheffield City Council revealed that the double yellow lines had been installed after ‘numerous complaints’ from First Group, who said buses had been unable to access the Standon Road stop due to parked vehicles.

“The police have been involved previously but the problem has persisted.

“There have been occasions where buses have physically not been able to get through to the stop. This has resulted in long delays to the service and the driver having to leave the bus and find vehicle owners to ask them to move their vehicles. There is no alternate route for this service.

“First Group have indicated that the current situation is untenable and have advised that the service will be removed if action is not taken to address the issues.

“Removal of the service would have a serious impact on public service provision in this part of the City. The elderly, infirm and those without access to a private motor vehicle rely on this service.”
