Sheffield bus crashes into railings after driver ‘missed road closed sign and attempted U-turn’

A bus has crashed through railings and become wedged hanging off an embankment on Manor Oaks Road in Sheffield.

Witnesses say that the driver did not see the ‘road closed’ signs and carried on driving down the road at 8.35am.

The driver then reportedly attempted a U-turn to get off the closed road, only to end up wedged on the embankment after reversing through the railings.

A spokesperson for First South Yorkshire said: “A 56 service bus heading to Wybourn was involved in a collision with railings earlier today while attempting to avoid an unexpected road closure. There were no passengers on board and the driver was unhurt.

“We are currently arranging for recovery of the vehicle and an investigation is underway.”

There is no indication as to how long the recovery operation will take. Traffic will be unaffected as the road was already closed.
