Drivers described rush hour yesterday as ‘chaos’, with Roy Wilson calling it the worst he has ever seen.

One woman said: “It was chaos last night at rush hour! Everyone beeping and shouting at each other in cars.”

Another said: “It’s horrendous for us carers getting through this traffic.”

A Northern Powergrid spokeswoman said the work followed a power cut reported on Saturday, which affected more than 120 customers.

Having carried out a temporary repair, she explained, workers were now fixing the underground cable.
