Morrisons reduces the price of petrol to less than £1 to 'help' during coronavirus

Asley Myers, head of fuel at the supermarket giant, told Press Association: "This cut will help people who are travelling to work, those shopping for essentials, and those assisting the elderly and vulnerable.

"We want to play our full part in reducing the cost of living and feeding the nation at this difficult time."

According to Morrisons, this is the first time fuel has been sold for less than £1 per litre in the UK since February 2016.

Diesel has also been cut in price, and is now 104.7p per litre.

The fall in the price of fuel has been driven by a global collapse in oil prices. This has been caused by a reduction in demand brought about by the global shutdown of economies during the Covid-19 pandemic.
