The bust main at the junction with Amos Road has meant that Meadowhall Road has been closed in both directions from Meadowhall Way to Alsing Road.

The road has been closed since 15.55 yesterday afternoon.

The area was already congested due to the failure of the tram-train between Rotherham and Sheffield at the weekend and into this week.

Yesterday evening traffic was diverted through the Meadowhall car park, prompting complaints from drivers who felt that the diversion was not properly sign posted.

Yorkshire Water apologised for the issues, tweeting: “We are carrying out essential repairs on #MeadowhallRoad and will have to close the road until this is complete. There is a diversion on #MeadowhallWay back onto the main Road. Apologies for the inconvenience, especially in rush hour.”

The is no indication when the road will reopen.
