Man arrested after M18 between Sheffield and Doncaster is closed due to person on bridge

The M18 between Sheffield and Doncaster was closed in the early hours of this morning as police responded to concerns for a man’s safety.

Police were called at around 2am this morning, Friday, August 28, to reports of a concern for safety for a man on a bridge near junction 1 of the M18 in Hellaby, Rotherham.

Police attended the scene and brought the man to safety. No injuries were reported.

A 33-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of endangering road users.

The motorway was closed in both directions between J1 and where it joins the M1 while police dealt with the incident.

Sheffield boy, 14, arrested on suspicion of burglary

At the time of the incident Highways England reported tailbacks of up to 1.5 miles, causing 30 minute delays.

The motorway has since reopened in both directions. The northbound side opened shortly after the incident and the southbound side followed shortly after that.
