M1 Chesterfield: ‘Severe congestion’ on motorway after crash south of Sheffield this evening

A car crash has caused severe congestion on the M1 south of Sheffield this evening.

It comes after reports of an accident on the carriageway, with pictures showing the tailbacks on the northbound carriageway between junctions 27 and 28. One lane has been closed and while officials deal with the incident on the site.

National Highways described the congestion as ‘severe’, with delays of 15 minutes against expected traffic times.
