Inquest opened into death of Sheffield motorcyclist

An inquest has been opened into the death of a motorcyclist killed in a collision in Sheffield.

Matthew Fothergill, aged 33, of Southey Crescent, Southey, Sheffield, died in a collision on Chesterfield Road South, Meadowhead, on Wednesday, March 25.

Mr Fothergill and the driver of a Toyota Hi-Lux were both travelling torwards the Bowshaw roundabout when they crashed.

Police said Mr Fothergill was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The collision led to the closure of the road for a number of hours while an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collision got underway.

Police officers are now appealing for witnesses.

Sergeant Donna Roden, of South Yorkshire Police, said: “We would like to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the incident.

“We are particularly keen to hear from any other motorbike riders who were in the area at the time and may have vital information that could assist with the investigation.”
