Drivers face delays on Sheffield roads today as police ‘manage traffic’ for youth climate protest

Public transport operators in Sheffield have warned of long delays in the city today while a youth climate demonstration takes to the streets in the town centre.

The Youth Strike 4 Climate will begin on Devonshire Green at 11am today (February 14) and the protest will make its way through town until 12.30.

First South Yorkshire has warned of long delays to its services during the protest, and has said that police will be managing the traffic on affected roads.

The roads that will be affected are: Fitzwilliam Street, Fitzwilliam Gate, Furnival Gate, Pinstone Street and Leopold Street.

There are no official road closures or diversions.

Sheffield Youth Strike 4 Climate said of the protest: “We would also like to express solidarity with all areas experiencing disasters as a result of global warming including Australia.

“Let's send a clear message to world leaders that this isn’t good enough and end climate injustice.”
