The company which has a large holiday camp in the heart of Sherwood Forest says it has taken the decision to allow more time to prepare for reopening.

Center Parcs closed its sites on March 20 and had planned to reopen around July 6. Now it is extending the closure by a further week to "make sure everything is in place".

A spokesman for Center Parcs said: “We have taken the decision to extend the closure period of our UK villages until 12th July and Longford Forest until 19th July 2020.

“Whilst we do not have a confirmed date for re-opening yet, we’re busy working on our reopening plans and we are getting nearer to welcoming our guests back to the forest. We have taken a best practice approach to our plans at this stage and are now very close to finalising things. We have made some assumptions on forthcoming Government guidelines and we know that we may need to make additional changes to our plans once this information is confirmed.

“The safety of our guests and staff continues to be our priority throughout our planning and we will only open when the time is right and in the right way. We have extended our closure period to allow ourselves a little bit more time to prepare, to make sure everything is in place before we open.”

The spokesman said the opening dates were subject to change as the current circumstances could change “very quickly”.
