Buses disrupted as snow covers roads across South Yorkshire

Bus services in South Yorkshire are disrupted this morning because of heavy snow and ice making roads across the county treacherous.

Stagecoach Yorkshire has drivers out testing all its routes this morning, with a number of diversions already in place and more could follow.

It said most services are delayed and are only operating on main roads in most areas.

The firm’s 19a service between Worksop and Rotherham is not serving Whitegates.

Buses will divert via Woodsetts Road in both directions.

First South Yorkshire has announced that its 75,76 and 76a services towards Shiregreen, Sheffield, are terminating at Firth Park.

Its 8, 8a and 120 services towards Crystal Peaks and Birley, Sheffield, are terminating at Manor Top, with services towards Fulwood terminating at Ranmoor.

Sheffield Council said gritters are treating routes this morning and urged motorists to ‘drive carefully’.

Superintendent Paul McCurry, of South Yorkshire Police, described driving conditions this morning as ‘very hazardous’ and said the A628 and A616 are particularly treacherous.
