Broken down tram in Sheffield city centre causes delays as passengers ‘booted off’

Trams passengers are facing delays and disruption following a breakdown in Sheffield city centre this morning.

A broken down tram close to the City Hall is blocking the tracks, affecting a number of services.

Stagecoach Supertram said the breakdown is causing ‘severe disruption’ this morning.

The firm added: “Sorry if you're affected by the issues but we're trying to get things moving as soon as possible.

“There is a blockage in the city so trams will not run past Shalesmoor as there is nowhere for them to turn back towards Hillsborough. If they ran past Shalesmoor, all trams would back up West St and nothing would be left between Shalesmoor and the terminus.”

Trams from Middlewood and Malin Bridge are turning back at Shalesmoor.

Trams are running between Meadowhall and Sheffield Station in both directions.

The firm said Stagecoach buses are accepting tickets in affected areas.
