TRAFFIC: M1 lanes near Sheffield now clear after incident

An incident has blocked all lanes of the M1 motorway near Sheffield this afternoon (Friday).

The M1 southbound at Junction 36 (Tankersley) is currently blocked, but traffic is passing slowly on the hard shoulder.

Highways England tweeted: “All lanes are blocked #M1 S/B within J36 traffic is passing on the hard shoulder but delays are starting to build on approach to the scene.”

In an update, the agency added: “Traffic officers on route to close #M1 within J36 S/B to assist the emergency services - traffic being diverted via the exit and entry slips.”

The incident comes after a vehicle fire blocked the M1 northbound earlier this afternoon.

UPDATE: The incident has now been cleared, according to the Highways Agency.

The latest update said: “All lanes are now open #M1 J36 following the earlie incident delays should now start to clear thanks for your patience with this.”
