A key road into Sheffield will not reopen until ‘at least’ tomorrow after a water leak which caused traffic chaos.
Glossop Road was shut from Claremont Place to Upper Hanover Street early on Friday after the burst was first reported.
The closure caused traffic chaos, with several major routes gridlocked around the city centre as a result and commuters stuck in traffic.
While the burst main has now been repaired, there was extensive damage caused to the road and footpath.
Staff from Yorkshire Water are working with Sheffield Council to repair the damage by June 11 - so completion is likely to take several days.
The road remains closed until it can be made safe and Yorkshire Water said this afternoon that it was set to be closed until ‘at least tomorrow’ although there are no more details of a timescale.
The water supply of some 30 nearby properties were affected but has now been restored.
