Derbyshire Constabulary confirmed that the road had been closed from Bowshaw roundabout.

A spokesman said it was due to a spillage of plasterboard onto the carriageway, and a team from the local authority had been called to clear it.

The road, near Batemoor, is a popular route to the M1 among many motorists in the city.
