Traffic is piling up on the M1 Southbound this morning after police shut the motorway near Mansfield.

AA Traffic suggests delays of over two hours are expected. Traffic cameras show lorries and cars effectively parked on the motorway across all lanes.

The closure is in place between J27 and J28, near Mansfield, and severe tailbacks are stretching from J28 to J29a, south of Barlborough and Killamarsh.

Update: The M1 was reopened at around 7:30am and traffic is easing. However, Highways England expects queues will last for an hour while motorists get moving again..
