Railway lines reopen between Sheffield and Meadowhall, but major disruption set to continue

All railway lines between Sheffield and Meadowhall have reopened following a fault with the signalling system.

But passengers have been warned to expect disruption to continue until 6pm this evening.

National Rail said trains may be delayed by up to 45 minutes, cancelled or revised whilst the service returns to normal.

The fault, which was first reported at around 7.45am, has been causing chaos throughout the day.

CrossCountry, Northern and TransPennine Express services have been affected.

CrossCountry customers have been advised they can use their tickets on Northern, TransPennine Express and LNER services via any reasonable route.

Northern customers can use their tickets on CrossCountry services, and TransPennine Express customers have been told they can use LNER services between Doncaster and Leeds and that any tickets for today may be used for travel tomorrow.

Passengers affected have been advised to keep their tickets and make a note of their journey so they can claim compensation.
