Northern Rail set to collapse in 'months', transport secretary Grant Shapps claims

Speaking in the House of Commons today (January 9), Mr Shapps said the government could nationalise the under-fire firm.
All trains currently run by Northern – which operates of South Yorkshire and Derbyshire – would then be controlled by a government-owned company.
The possibility of giving Northern franchise holders Arriva Rail North a ‘short-term management’ contract allowing them to continue running the trains was also mentioned.
