Part of Sheffield’s ring road was closed this morning, following a car crash where the driver fled the scene.

Police were called to Shalesmoor this morning, December 27, to reports of a road traffic collision involving one vehicle.

A spokeswoman for South Yorkshire Police said: “At around 7am, it’s reported that a car was in collision with some traffic lights.

“The driver is believed to have left the scene immediately.

“The road has now reopened, however there is still a high build-up of traffic in and around the area.”

Buses heading towards the city centre are being diverted this morning, due to the closure.

Stagecoach services 57 and 86 are being diverted out of the city centre via Scotland Street, and service 86 is also not serving Chaucer Road.

First services 81 and 82 towards Hillsborough are being diverted via Tenter Street, Broad Lane and Netherthorpe Road.
